The Iowa Cornbelt Oliver Collector Association chapter was the second chapter to form from the National HPOCA. Beginning in 1994, the chapter has grown to just under 300 members. About 90% of our membership resides in Iowa. Our Cornbelt Chronicle is mailed out quarterly all over Iowa and the United States to keep our members up on chapter happenings.
The Iowa Cornbelt Chapter hosted the 2000, 2007 and 2008 Winter Get-Together events for the National HPOCA and was selected to host the 2010 HPOCA National Summer Show in Mount Pleasant, Iowa (June 24-27, 2010). Our members participate in several events throughout the year: a spring field day, a tractor ride, chapter-sponsored summer show, a display at farm show, fall field day and winter get-together. Members proudly display equipment in local shows and participate in tractor rides and parades. Please see the event calendar for more information.
Our membership goals are to increase membership by 100 by the end of 2010. Our newsletter goals are to increase mail circulation to 300 members and email circulation of the newsletter to 500 members and guests by end of 2010. If you would like to host a Cornbelt event in your area please contact one of the officers. If you have an event where you would like to feature Oliver tractors please contact one of our officers. If you are a vendor that would like to set up at one of our shows please contact one of our officers.
The following is an excerpt from an article from HPOCA magazine Vol. V #1 Spring 1994.
“Over the years there have been several conversations about starting a regional chapter of the HPOCA in Iowa. On January 13, several families gathered informally in Little Amana, Iowa to discuss the feasibility of such a chapter. We were in agreement that regional chapters are vital to the continued growth and success of the HPOCA. Several names for the association were discussed. We wanted to keep a regional identity that was not necessarily limited by geographic boundaries. We wanted an Iowa Chapter but did not want to exclude anyone from the surrounding states who might want to join. Hence the local and regional flavor of our name; The Iowa Cornbelt Oliver Collectors Association.
For our first Chapter meeting it must be noted that we met on the coldest day of the year here in Iowa. I suggested we go outside and have our picture taken, clad only in shorts and tee shirts, under the temperature sign while it read 21 below. I wanted to show everybody how determined we were not to let a little thing like sub-zero temperatures dampen our enthusiasm. The other folks suggested I --well, let it be said that Sherry would not let that suggestion soil the pages of our fine magazine. I think they were afraid of vital parts freezing and falling off. I guess we would have looked kind of funny running around at HPOCA functions without noses. But we would have had great chapter recognition.
Those in attendance at the first meeting that cold January day were: Vernon Heyser, Everett Schilling, Greg Sutton, Tom Toycen, Blane Bolte, Harlan Massdan, Laverne Sheets and Bill Stoltz. Blane Bolte was the club's first President, with Tom Toycen at his side helping in all ways imaginable.”
